January 12, 2024, Tokyo, Japan – Following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture on New Year's Day and the subsequent tsunami, Digital Wallet Corporation (DWC), the owner and developer of Japan's No. 1 global mobile remittance service 'Smiles Mobile Remittance', took swift action by donating 1 million yen to support the earthquake recovery efforts in Ishikawa Prefecture.
According to reports, over 200 precious lives have been lost due to this earthquake, and as of January 9, more than 26,000 people have been forced to live in evacuation shelters. In response to this devastating situation, the governor of Ishikawa Prefecture announced that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will visit the disaster-affected areas this weekend. The purpose of this visit is to assess the damage and determine the support and assistance needed for the community in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Digital Wallet is deeply connected with the community in Ishikawa Prefecture through many active users who actively contribute to local society. These individuals are essential to the region.
Hiroyuki Miyagawa, President and CEO of Digital Wallet, stated: 'Our heartfelt wish is to see the residents of Ishikawa Prefecture and foreign citizens who play an important role in the community come together to overcome this hardship as one.'
'Recognizing the importance of our user base, we want to deliver focused support and hope to these invaluable customers and local communities. Demonstrating concrete and meaningful connections with the community is extremely important to us.'
In light of the urgent needs of the international community and local society, Digital Wallet has made a donation to the 'Reiwa 6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund'. This donation aims to directly support those affected, with a particular emphasis on assisting users of Smiles Mobile Remittance and the entire community of Ishikawa Prefecture.
Digital Wallet Corporation believes that reconstruction will progress more rapidly when the international community comes together. We will continue our efforts to support relief activities for the people of Ishikawa Prefecture during this difficult time.
